Greetings, Friends:

It’s (nearly) official! Thanks to all my supporters and volunteers, I've been decisively re-elected to Burlingame City Council and look forward to becoming your Mayor on December 16th. Please join us at City Hall on Monday, 12/16 at 7 p.m. for our swearing-in ceremony and post-meeting celebration. It is my true privilege to serve Burlingame for another five years and continue the important work we’ve begun together.

Open Space Update
This is my first opportunity to share some great news with you:  Burlingame Shoreline Park proposal for nine acres of public land on our Bayfront advanced!  On 10/24/19, our California State Lands Commission unanimously awarded SPHERE Institute a lease for this project so that final planning and design may begin. This nature-based park and sea level rise demonstration site will be a terrific addition to our Bayfront and provide much-needed open space in an increasingly dense region.  Over the next three years, the project partners will develop final plans and acquire approvals from various agencies, including our City. There will also be meaningful opportunities for our community to provide input on the park's final design, so stay tuned for future opportunities to make your voice heard.

Upcoming community meetings and events highlights:

Monday, 11/18/19, City Council Meeting - consideration of an interim suspension of "No-Cause" evictions
Burlingame City Hall, 7 p.m.

Like many of our neighboring cities have done, our City Council will consider an urgency ordinance providing interim Just Cause Eviction Protections to tenants in light of the new State Law AB 1482.  This past Tuesday, 11/12/19 we held a one-hour emergency study session on this issue. I recommend watching the meeting video on our City’s website. You can also read this week's staff report on our agenda (item 9a) and communicate your opinion on public record to our City Council by emailing [email protected].  Even better, please consider attending Monday night’s meeting at 7 p.m.

Also on Monday night, Mayor Colson will present certificates of appreciation to a number of Burlingame veterans in honor of their selfless service and Veterans Day.
